The Neuse Rules . . .

The North Carolina Environmental Management Commission has established the goal of reducing the average annual load of nitrogen delivered to the Neuse River Estuary from point and non-point sources by a minimum of 30%. The Neuse rules were developed to achieve this nitrogen reduction goal. They are now law.*

Note: All of the rules, with the exception of the riparian area rule became effective on August 1, 1998. The rule, for riparian areas became effective as a temporary rule on July 22, 1997 and will remain effective until the North Carolina Environmental Management Commission (EMC) acts on the rule.
