Nutrient Management Plans
To write
a nutrient management plan, you need to have information about
soils on the farm of interest. Realistic yields for these soils,
combined with information about planned crop rotations, enables
a producer to apply the most profitable amounts of nitrogen while
decreasing the potential that excess nitrogen might wind up in
the nearest stream.
Below
is a map showing soils on the Lenoir County Demonstration farm.
Field boundaries were delineated with a portable GPS unit. This
information was combined with Lenoir County Soil Survey information
and a background USGS digital aerial photograph to produce the
map you see below. Map symbols are explained and realistic yields
are shown in the table below the map.
