Sources of Nitrogen from the Landscape

Rain Area

Atmospheric Deposition

Atmospheric nitrogen is deposited onto land and water surfaces both as dry deposits and with rainfall. On average, about 10 pounds of nitrogen is deposited per year through rainfall. Currently, scientists in state government and at North Carolina State University are trying to quantify more precisely the amount of nitrogen.
